On 31 January 1806, Jacob, jr., married Catharine Lingerfelt in Lincoln Co., NC, and appeared to have moved to Jackson Co., Illinois soon afterwards. It is believed that he may have went to Pennsylvania and enlisted as an American soldier serving during the War of 1812. On 13 Apr 1816, he received a land warrent for 16,000 acres. It is unclear who the other children were at this time.
